More Plumbing Tips…
In part two of our plumbing tips series we tackle ways to avoid drain clogs and how to keep your garbage disposal operating effectively.
Avoid Drain Clogs
- Check all drains to ensure they have strainers to keep soap, debris, and hair from clogging them.
- Fats or cooking oils will harden in the pipes and create clogs so avoid pouring them down the drain
Garbage Disposal Tips
- Always turn the disposal on before adding food waste and run cold water down the drain before and after using the disposal
- Avoid putting waste like bones, chicken skins, banana peels, carrots, or celery into the garbage disposal as they will clog the drain.
Before removing the sink trap – Plunge the sink first
It is important to give the drain a few plunges with a plunger before removing the sink trap. Plunging the sink will reduce the amount of mess when you pull the trap. For double sinks plunge both drains to contain the air pressure.
